Equality & Diversity

Equality and diversity are central to the work of Oldham LINk.

The Oldham LINk has been set up to give local people a stronger voice in how their health and social care services are provided and delivered.  For us this means everyone in Oldham!

Our aim is to promote equality and diversity in all our work and activities and eliminate discrimination, from volunteering and recruitment, through to selection and training of LINk members and in particular helping to shape and deliver health and social care services that meet the different needs of our communities in Oldham.

We recognise and value the many different and diverse communities that make up Oldham.  We are committed to being inclusive, promoting equality of opportunity for all, and treating everyone fairly, with dignity and respect. We value the differences that people bring in terms of their age, background, faith, race, culture, disability, gender, sexuality and caring responsibilities.

Earlier this year, the Government introduced the Equalities Bill which replaces all existing equality legislation.  Its aim is to bring together all the different laws in one place to strengthen the law and fight discrimination as well as helping people to understand their rights under the law and help organisations to comply with the law.  Most of the main provisions of the Bill are expected to come into force in October 2010, with the rest of the duties coming into force in 2011.
